HATCH is a painting about the inner architecture of the modern world. The speed at which we move in the terrain of endless construction and re-construction. Each line is carefully hand painted into another. In my high school years, I went to an architecture school where we learnt how to depict and draw construction materials using different types of hatching methods. These drawings were extremely precise, and a millimeter shift could affect the whole outcome. I experienced a similar feeling making this painting, it required total concentration and a lot of patience to achieve an optical field. The execution of each line had to be synchronized with my breathing and amount of pressure exerted onto the surface. I personally enjoy the durational approach as it connects with my interest in running, an economic repetition of bodily movements over a long duration of time/distance. The result shows a sort of openness of this process, the way mind, body and painting combined is able to generate a concrete image and yet retain the infinity in its form.
